We do understand that sometimes everybody can’t afford a professional bed bug exterminator so here are a few suggestions.

Perform an inspection

Performing an inspection can give you the ability to know how bad the infestation is and how much it’s spread through the home. Remember be careful doing an inspection you do not want to excite the bedbugs too much as well as giving them the confidence to move to other furniture out of fear. There’s an article and video on how to perform a proper inspection.

Remove clutter

Removing unwanted items near a bed bug infestation is wise. Gently place items you want to discard in a sealed trash bag. Start with items around your bed, couches, or chairs. Seal any items you want to keep in an airtight bag and store them outside, in a storage unit, or garage. Once the infestation is exterminated, carefully inspect each item and return them to the area.

Launder all your clothes and bedding

Gently remove any bedding pillows blankets and bed skirts from your bed and place in an airtight trash bag. Depending on the level of infestation you may want to check your dressers. Pull the dresser drawers out and check under the drawer and in the corners of the dresser, you may need a flashlight. If you don’t find any bed bugs in these areas you may be okay without washing and drying clothes in the dresser if the dresser is close to the bed or an infested chair 2 to 3 ft you may still want to wash and dry these clothes as well.

We suggest trying all clothes and bedding with and minimum of 30 -45 minutes per load this will kill any eggs or bed bugs. After each load place in another room or area uninfested. The minimum requirement is to dry the bedding or the clothes if you prefer you can wash and dry them as well.

Treatment

As far as treatment goes there’s a lot of products to choose from. We recommend staying away from bed bugs and flea foggers. We would suggest using diatomaceous earth with a bulb duster.

Diatomaceous earth works as a desiccant drawing out the bed bugs and killing them. Make sure you follow label instructions on any products used remember more does not equal better over-applying and overusing products can cause the bed bugs to stay dormant or find an alternate host, pathway, and hiding areas. We hope this helps we can’t guarantee these suggestions will get rid of the infestation but we found that these are the best possible ways to eliminate bed bugs yourself if you can afford bed bug exterminator.
