Good prep keeps your belongings safe and helps the heat reach every hiding spot. Use this checklist in the days before your treatment. You’ll also get our full What to Expect guide when you book.

Remove anything that can melt or be damaged by heat

  • Candles, crayons, and wax items
  • Lipstick, makeup, and lotions
  • Medications and vitamins
  • Chocolate, butter, and other food that can melt
  • Houseplants

Remove anything that’s a fire or safety risk

  • Aerosol cans and anything pressurized
  • Lighters, propane, and lighter fluid
  • Firearms and ammunition
  • Cleaning chemicals and anything flammable

Electronics and valuables

  • Unplug electronics
  • Take phones, laptops, and tablets with you
  • Ask us about TVs, gaming systems, and musical instruments
  • Take important papers, photos, and cash with you

Leave these in place

  • Clothes in closets and drawers. Open drawers and closet doors so the heat can get in
  • Furniture. Don’t move it to other rooms, because that can spread bed bugs
  • Bedding on the beds, unless we tell you otherwise

On treatment day

  • Plan to be out of the house most of the day
  • Take pets with you, and let us know about fish tanks ahead of time
  • Leave a key or a way for our team to get in
  • Clear a path to each room so we can move equipment through

Why it matters

Heat treatment works by bringing every room up to a temperature that kills bed bugs and their eggs. Clutter, closed drawers, and blocked rooms leave cool spots where bugs can survive. Good prep means one treatment does the job.
