The sooner you catch bed bugs, the easier and cheaper they are to get rid of. Here are seven early signs we see in Tulsa homes all the time.
1. Itchy, pimple-size bumps on skin exposed while you sleep
Bites usually show up on the arms, shoulders, neck, and legs, which are the areas uncovered at night.
2. Bumps that keep showing up in new places
If new irritated spots keep appearing on different parts of your body, something is still biting.
3. Your partner or kids have new irritated skin too
When more than one person in the house wakes up with bites, bed bugs are a strong possibility. Keep in mind that some people don’t react to bites at all, so one person may have marks while the other has none.
4. Rusty or brownish blood stains on the sheets
These small stains come from bed bugs that were crushed after feeding, or from bites that bled a little.
5. Black “pepper” spots on the sheets or mattress
Look near the edges, corners, and seams of the mattress. These tiny dark spots are bed bug droppings.
6. Tossing and turning more than usual
Restless, uncomfortable sleep can be an early sign, especially if it comes with itching.
7. Shed skins, eggs, or live bugs
Bed bugs shed their skins as they grow. Light brown shells, tiny white eggs, or an apple-seed-size bug in the mattress seams confirm the problem.
